War das eine unruhige und teure Nacht: Bis um 22
Uhr in der Aviedale Suite (https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/aviedale-bb-suite.de.html) auf den Orkney Inseln, dann 7
Stunden in einem bequemen Sitz auf der Northlink Fähre (https://www.northlinkferries.co.uk) zu den Shetland Inseln und dort
hab ich für eine Woche das Tamara Apartment (https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/tamara-apartment.de.html) gemietet. Das Letztere war nur
von wochenweise ab Samstag zu mieten... das machte nicht nur meinen Aufenthalt
dort speziell kostspielig, sondern vor allem die erste und letzte Nacht: Ich
hatte für 3 Unterkünfte bezahlt!
Auf dem Weg von Lerwick nach Cunningsburgh in den Süden machte ich die nötigsten Einkäufe und war froh, nicht mehr weit fahren zu müssen… irgendwie war ich einfach müde... Obschon das tolle Wetter und die wunderschöne Landschaft mich bald wieder ermunterte, liessen mich Böen bis zu 60 km/h den restlichen Tag im gemütlichen Zuhause verbringen. : )
What a restless and expensive night it was! I stayed until 10 pm in the Aviedale Suite (https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/aviedale-bb-suite.de.html) in the Orkney Islands, then spent 7 hours in a comfortable seat on the Northlink ferry (https://www.northlinkferries.co.uk) to the Shetland Islands, where I rented the Tamara Apartment (https://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/tamara-apartment.de.html) for a week. The latter was only available for weekly rentals starting on Saturdays... which not only made my stay there particularly costly, but especially the first and last nights: I ended up paying for three different accommodations!
On my way south to Cunningsburgh from Lerwick, I did the essential shopping and was glad I didn't have much further to drive… I was just feeling tired… Although the lovely weather and beautiful scenery soon cheered me up, gusts of up to 60 km/h kept me cozy at home for the rest of the day. : )

Auf den Shetland Inseln war ich noch nie... aber
2013 sehr nah vorbeigefahren, als ich mit der Fähre von Hirtshals, Dänemark,
über die Färöer Insel nach Island (https://franziskaaeschbach7.blogspot.com) fuhr... mit demselben Auto wie
jetzt! : ) - Das war ein ganz tolle Reise und die Landschaft ist vergleichbar
hier mit dem Norden Schottlands wie auch mit Irland und dem Osten Kanadas.
I've never been to the Shetland Islands… but I drove very close in 2013 when I took the ferry from Hirtshals, Denmark, via the Faroe Islands to Iceland (https://franziskaaeschbach7.blogspot.com)… in the same car as now! : ) It was a fantastic trip, and the landscape there is comparable to northern Scotland as well as Ireland and eastern Canada.

Das Wetter war zu fantastisch um zu Hause zu
bleiben, so teilte ich die Inseln auf: Zuerst ging es soweit in den Norden wie
möglich, ohne eine Fähre nehmen zu müssen. Und für einmal passte es auch für
ein Abendessen unterwegs: im Frankie's (https://www.frankiesfishandchips.com) in Brea.
The weather was too fantastic to stay home, so I split the islands into 3 parts: First, I headed as far north as possible without having to take a ferry. And for once, there was even time for dinner on the go: at Frankie's (https://www.frankiesfishandchips.com) in Brea.

- einfach nur wunderschön! : )
One day I explored the south and its stunning beaches... and another day I concentrated to the central islands and the capital, Lerwick - simply beautiful! : )

Margaret und Tamy des Tamara Apartment luden mich auf einen gemütlichen Abend ein und Tamy berichtete stolz von den Vorfahren der Inseln, den Wickinger, und dass Shetland enger verknüpft ist mit Norwegen als Schottland... auch seine wunderschönen Harding Violinen zeigten die Herkunft! - Danke! : )
Margaret and Tamy from the Tamara Apartment invited me for a cheerful evening, and Tamy proudly told me about the islands' ancestors, the Vikings, and that Shetland is more closely connected to Norway than to Scotland… his beautiful Harding fiddles also reflect this heritage! Am Freitag nahm ich es gemütlich, denn ich hatte ja
schliesslich das Appartement bis Samstagmorgen gemietet. Um 14:30 Uhr
verabschiedet ich mich von Margaret und Tamy und fuhr die knappe halbe Stunde
nach Lerwick. Bevor die Fähre um 17:30 Uhr los Richtung Orkney Inseln fahren
würde, hatte ich noch Zeit für eine kurze Runde: Clikimin Broch, Knap, Fort
Charlotte und ein Cappuccino im Dowry Café (https://www.thedowry.co.uk).

On Friday I took it easy, since I had rented the
apartment until Saturday morning. At 2:30 pm, I said goodbye to Margaret and
Tamy and drove the short half hour to Lerwick. Before the ferry departed for
the Orkney Islands at 5:30 pm, I had time for a quick stroll: Clikimin Broch,
Knap, Fort Charlotte, and a cappuccino at the Dowry Café (https://www.thedowry.co.uk).
