Wie bereits erwähnt, war es äusserst schwierig, eine Unterkunft in Schottland zu finden... die bezahlbar ist ind auf meiner Route Richtung Norden liegt... Als ich mit Mühe und Not eine für 5 Nächte in Aboyne fand und buchte, entdeckte ich eine Nachricht vom jetzigen Vermieter des Garden Lodge Cottage, The Firs (https://www.sykescottages.co.uk/cottage/Speyside-The-Cairngorms-Bridge-of-Tilt/Garden-Lodge-1153159.html) in Bridge of Tilt, dass er mir eine Nacht ohne Bezahlung anbot... Ich kontaktierte die Besitzerin in Aboyne und fragte, ob es möglich wäre, meine Buchung für einen Tag zu verschieben? Obwohl sie mir versprach zu antworten, sobald sie Antwort ihrer Putzfrau hatte, hörte ich nichts mehr von ihr, so dass ich sie am Abend anrief... denn ich wollte wissen, ob ich morgen schon weiterreisen musste oder noch einen Zusatztag geniessen konnte? - Sie klagte darüber, dass das Studio so noch einen Tag länger frei bleiben würde... 1 Stunde später wurde die Verschiebung via Airbnb dann doch bestätigt! : )

Am Mittwoch kurz nach 10 Uhr nahm ich die 120 km durch die wunderschönen Highlands Richtung Nord Osten in Angriff... mit einem Besuch des Braemar Castles und dem hübschen Ballater. Ich hatte Viki über meiner Abfahrt informiert und dass ich etwa um 14 Uhr ankommen würde. Sie antwortete mir, dass ich jederzeit einchecken könne, nur sie sei ab 14:30 Uhr besetzt.

As mentioned before, it was extremely difficult to find affordable accommodation in Scotland, that was also on my route direction north. When I finally managed to find and book a place for 5 nights in Aboyne, I discovered a message from the current owner of the Garden Lodge Cottage, The Firs (https://www.sykescottages.co.uk/cottage/Speyside-The-Cairngorms-Bridge-of-Tilt/Garden-Lodge-1153159.html) in Bridge of Tilt, offering me one night free of charge. I contacted the owner in Aboyne and asked if it would be possible to postpone my booking by one day. Although she promised to reply as soon as she got an answer from her cleaning lady, I didn't hear back, so I called her that evening to find out if I had to continue my journey the next day or if I could enjoy an extra day. She complained that the studio would remain empty for another day… An hour later, the postponement was finally confirmed via Airbnb! : )

On Wednesday, shortly after 10 am, I set off on the 120 km drive through the beautiful Highlands heading northeast with a visit to Braemar Castle and the charming town of Ballater. I had informed Viki about my departure and that I would arrive around 2 pm. She replied that I could check in anytime, but she would be busy from 2:30 pm onwards.

Um 14:20 Uhr stand ich oben am Haus des Garden Glamping Studio (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/3078848) und konnte den Eingang zu meinem Studio nirgendwo sehen... es hatte zwar 2 Apartments, die sahen aber ganz anders aus, so dass ich anrief (per Landlinie, da ich kein Internet habe unterwegs) und sagen wollte, dass ich den Zugang zum Studio nicht finden... Viki verwies mich aber schroff auf ein Video, das sie mir geschickt hatte und ich ohne Internet nicht anschauen konnte... aber das war ja auch gar nicht das Problem, denn was ich später bemerkte: Der schmale Eingang neben der Garage war von abgesagten Ästen verdeckt! Ich fuhr die Einfahrt hinunter und stellte das Auto irgendwo hin, als eine Frau herauskam und mich anfuhr, dass das nicht mein Parkplatz ist... und mich von ihrem Grundstück verwies - ich soll nach 17 Uhr wiederkommen... : ((

Was war denn das? - Ich glaubte nicht richtig zu hören! Was ging hier ab?? - Verdutzt fuhr ich ins Grüne, zog mich um und ging 1 Stunde joggen... Es wurde kühl, nass und ungemütlich und ging einkaufen, nicht wissend, ob ich wirklich an so einem Ort wohnen will? - Aber hatte ich eine Wahl???

At 2:20 pm, I was standing on the hill above the building of the Garden Glamping Studio (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/3078848) and couldn't see the entrance to my studio anywhere. There were 2 apartments, but they looked completely different… so I called (by landline, since I don't have internet while traveling) to say that I couldn't find the entrance to the studio. Viki curtly referred me to a video she had sent me, which I couldn't watch without internet access. But that wasn't even the problem, because what I later noticed was that the narrow entrance next to the garage was blocked by fallen branches! I drove down the driveway and parked the car just somewhere, when a woman came out and snapped at me, saying that this wasn't my parking spot... and told me to leave her property - to come back after 5 pm… : ((

What was that all about?! - I couldn't believe my ears! What was going on?? - Puzzled I drove out into the countryside, changed my clothes and went for an hours’ run. It was getting cold, wet and unpleasant… and I went shopping, not knowing if I really wanted to stay in a place like this. - But did I have a choice???

Um 17 Uhr machte ich noch einen Anlauf und war froh zu sehen, dass der Drachen nicht zu Hause war. Einer der Wohnungen war bewohnt und ich fragte, ob sie wohl wisse wo das Garden Studio ist? Die nette Frau sagte mir, dass ich an der Garage vorbei soll und dort auf der Terrasse gibt es noch ein Zimmer... Ich beförderte die Äste zur Seite und um durch die schmale Passage zu kommen und auf der anderen Seite stand ein grosses Zelt im Rasen! - Oh nein, ging mir durch den Kopf, das wäre das letzte, was ich möchte! Als ich aber über die private Terrasse schaute, sah ich eine offene Tür: was für ein nasses und kühles Willkommen! : (

Das Zimmer war winzig, es war kaum Platz um sich zu bewegen, geschweige denn etwas abzustellen... Ich trocknete den Gartentisch ab und nahm ihn nach innen, so dass ich mich wenig aufs Bett setzen und so arbeiten konnte... Am nächsten Tag hatte sich Viki angeschlichen und mich erschreckt mit: Hast du es doch gefunden? Und wie ich sehe, hast du denn Tisch hinein genommen... Er gehört nach draussen und es hat einen drinnen. Das war aber nur so ein Beistelltischchen für aufs Bett, was äusserst unbequem zum Arbeiten war... sie brachte mir dann einen anderen wackeligen..

Bei dieser Gelegenheit zeigte sie mir, wo ich rauchen konnte, was ich auch tat... und es ist möglich, dass man den Rauch auf der Terrasse wahrnimmt - aber er konnte niemals ins Haus gelangen, wie sie nachträglich beanstandete! : ( Und dann stand sie plötzlich einmal vor mir und sagte: Ich höre deine Musik. Ich machte leiser und dachte mir nur: Und ich muss alle ihre Telefonate auf der Terrasse mitanhören - ist das ein Superhost? ...eher ein super bad host! - Das Beste an der Unterkunft war: Es hat einen grossen Kompost! ; )

At 5 pm I made my second attempt and was happy to see that the dragon wasn't home. One of the apartments was occupied and I asked if she knew where the Garden Studio was? The nice woman told me to go past the garage and behind there is another room on the terrace. I moved some branches aside to get through the narrow passage and on the other side, there was a large tent on the lawn! - Oh no, I thought... that would be the last thing I wanted! But when I looked out onto the private terrace, I saw an open door: what a wet and chilly welcome! : (

The room was tiny; there was hardly any space to move around, let alone put anything down... I dried the garden tableand brought it inside so I could sit on the bed and work... The next day, Viki crept up and startled me with: So you found it after all? And I see you've brought the table inside... it belongs outside but there's one inside. But it was just a small side table for on the bed, which was extremely uncomfortable for working... she then brought me another wobbly one.

Whilst putting me into place, she showed me where I could smoke, which I did. And it's possible to notice the smoke on the terrace - but it could never have gotten into the house, as she later claimed! : ( And once she suddenly stood in front of me and said: I can hear your music. I turned it down and thought to myself: And I have to listen to all her phone calls on the terrace - is this a superhost... more like a super bad host! - The best thing about the place was: There is a huge compost! ; )

Das Ganze hatte noch eine Nachgeschichte 2 Wochen später... Momentan bin ich ein bisschen in Verzug mit der Aktualisierung meines Reiseblog, da ich zwei Wochen mit meiner Tochter und Enkelinnen ohne Arbeit genossen habe... : ) Normalerweise sende ich meinen Reisebericht als Rückmeldung an die Unterkünfte, diesmal war ich aber noch nicht soweit... und Airbnb schickte mir mehrere Aufforderungen per e-mail für ein Feedback, das letzte mit letzter Möglichkeit. Und die wollte ich natürlich nicht verpassen und schrieb in kurzen Sätzen, weshalb ich eine schlechte Bewertung abgegebe (obschon diese arrogante Person mit einer Nachricht aufforderte, nur höchste Bewertungen abzugeben)... Im Nu schrieb Viki eine Bewertung über mich und schickte mir eine Rechnung von 130 Fr. für Reinigungskosten - wieder konnte ich nicht verstehen, was hier passierte!? - Ich war mir keinen Schaden bewusst und wenn, hätte ich es gleich gemeldet... zudem meldete sie es erst nach meinem Feedback, 2 Wochen später! - Ich lehnte die Forderung ab und Airbnb schloss den Fall... sie werden sie wohl kennen!? : ((

The whole thing had a sequel two weeks later... I'm a little behind on updating my travel blog at the moment, as I enjoyed 2 weeks with my daughter and granddaughters without work... : ) I usually send my trip report as feedback to accommodations, but this time I wasn't quite ready yet... and Airbnb sent me several e-mails requesting a feedback, the last one being a final opportunity. Of course, I didn't want to miss that and wrote a few sentences explaining why I was leaving a bad review (even though this arrogant person had sent me a message asking to give top ratings only)... In no time, Viki wrote a review about me and sent me an invoice for 130 CHF for cleaning costs - again, I couldn't understand what was happening!? - I wasn't aware of any damage, and if, I would have reported it immediately... besides, she only reported it after my feedback, 2 weeks later! - I rejected the demand and Airbnb closed the case... they must know her!? : ((
